Rava Oats Paddu/Paniyaram (Instant)

Usually my Sunday breakfast consists of dosa/uthapam. I have already posted several instant dosa recipes – Oats Wheat Dosa (With Avocado) and Oats Mixed Vegetable Utthapam. This week I wanted to change up the routine a bit 🙂 I tried paniyaram/paddu. Again with instant batter 🙂 I have an oats buckwheat paniyaram recipe already on the blog. This time I tried a rava oats paniyaram! The texture/consistency is a bit different than the wheat one because adding wheat makes the paddu a little dense. The wheat ones are also definitely more filling 🙂

Most people assume that oats is boring because you cannot prepare anything other than oatmeal! That is definitely not true I think 🙂 With a little bit of creativity you can get everyone in your family to eat oats! Oats have a lot of fiber that keeps you full longer – hence it is ideal for breakfast. With all the flavors in this paddu no one will realize there is oats in it! 🙂 I definitely liked this recipe because it is so simple to prepare. Within 10 minutes you have a healthy dish ready!

  • Servings: 14 paddus
  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients
  1. 2/3 cup semolina/rava
  2. 1/3 cup oats
  3. Salt to taste
  4. 4 tbsp yogurt
  5. 1-2 green chillies (or to taste)
  6. 1 small onion
  7. 1 carrot
  8. 1 tbsp oil

Method

  1. Chop the onions and chillies finely. Peel and grate the carrots.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine rava, oats flour and salt with yogurt. Add water little at a time and mix well till you get a thick batter. Mix the chopped onions, chillies and grated carrot into the batter. Let this rest for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Heat the paddu pan. Pour 1 tbsp of batter into each portion. Drizzle a little oil around the edges of each of the paddus and let them cook on slow heat. (These take a little while to cook because the batter is a little dense)
  4. Once the underside of the paddus turn golden brown, flip them over and let them cook on the other side.
  5. Once both sides are cooked, the paddus are ready to be served with your favorite chutneys
